The Clare, Clara's extended family sailboat, named for her mothers cousin, who was at the helm when we went out for a ride the day before I took this from the cliff at Old Buck's Eyebrow.

I lived in Olympia for about a year and a half straight. Shortly after graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology I loaded up my gold '98 chevy cavalier with my ex and all the photography, camping, and music making gear we could fit and drove clear across the country from Cleveland, Ohio to Washington. I was probably there almost a week before, one day, driving Midas (the '98 cavalier) down the hill into downtown Olympia I was suddenly struck dumb by Mount Ranier looming, alone, pastel, and impossibly massive on the horizon. It looked as if someone with a poor sense of perspective had cut it out of an illustrated picture book and pasted it onto the landscape. I loved the view from that hill more than almost anything in Olympia, it reminded me of the awesomeness I had come out here to witness. When I moved back to New York, I wanted a photo of it on my way out of town, but tragically it was too overcast. I returned for three days to graduate in June, and on my way into downtown to get dinner after graduation, the sky was so brilliantly clear, I managed to capture this out the rental car window from the hill, one of my most important views in all of the world.
